The Ticino is an Italian river that rises in the southern part of the Gotthard massif.

The Ticino flows through Ticino and flows into Lago Maggiore at Locarno.
At Sesto Calende it flows out of the lake and after about 248 km the Ticino flows into the Po at Pavia.

The Ticino passes the metropolitan region of Milan in the west and feeds the Navigli Pavese, as well as the Navigli Grande with water, so that the Lago Maggiore, Milan and the Po are connected on the waterway.

Cycling at Ticino

Along the Ticino, there is a signposted bike along the Veloland.ch route x to Lago Maggiore.
From the southern end of Lago Maggiore we cycle a short stretch without a signposted cycle path, then we can follow the Naviglio Pavese until Pavia which runs parallel to the Ticino and also flows into the Po at Pavia.
The Infra structure from the St.Gotthard area at Airolo along the Ticino to the mouth at Pavia is - the railway line runs parallel.
On Lago Maggiore we can change to the ferry as an alternative to cycling.
