The Tajo (Spanish) or Tejo (Portuguese) is with 1007 km the longest river on the Iberian peninsula and flows from east to west. 
The Tajo rises in 1627 at Fuente Garcia and flows into the Atlantic Ocean in Lisbon. 
The Tajo also passes about 40 km south of the Spanish capital Madrid. 
The Spanish cities located at the Tajo are Aranjuez, Toledo, Talavera de la Reina and Alcantara. The Portuguese cities are Santarem and Lisbon.
On approx. 48 km the Tajo forms the border between Spain and Portugal. 
There is a canal and an aqueduct between the Rio Tajo and Rio Segura. 
The biggest bridge over the Tajo is the Vasco di Gama bridge in Lisbon with a length of 17.2 km !
