The Seine is an approximately 777 km long river in northern France that rises in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region on the Langres plateau (Source-Seine area), about 30 km north-west of Dijon at 470 m. The Seine is a river with a length of approximately 777 km.

The Seine flows from east to west through the Paris basin and flows into the English Channel at Le Havre.

The Seine flows through France's capital Paris and the banks of the Seine are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Rouen and Troyes are other important cities along the Seine.

The lower reaches of the Seine lie in Normandy and the Seine has exceptionally large valley loops for a river with this water flow.

The Seine is navigable with inland vessels up to Nogent-sur-Seine (560 km). Even large seagoing vessels can sail to Rouen (approx. 120 km).
Rouen and Paris are also the most important inland ports in France.

Information on cycling on the Seine

The Seine valley is known for its numerous castles, but the automobile and petrochemical industries have also settled along the banks of the Seine, some of which have to be bypassed by bike.

Velo Europe tries as far as possible to do without used roads and accepts among other things that small detours are made or also industrial areas at the river are circumnavigated ( see also route criteria ).

In the end everybody can find his own way, but with the help of our navigation you can easily get back to our suggested route.
