Germany's geography stretches from the North Sea and Baltic Sea in the north, through the lowlands and low mountain ranges in the middle and finally the Alps in the south.  In between, huge valleys with rivers and vegetation of all kinds.
Many large-medium-small streams and rivers flow through Germany.
The main rivers are
- the Rhine with its tributaries Main - Neckar - Ruhr - Moselle
- the Elbe in the east of Germany towards Hamburg-North Sea with its tributaries Saale - Havel
- the Danube in the south with its tributaries Iller - Isar - Inn.
The Rhine is one of the busiest inland waterways in Europe and finally flows into the North Sea in the huge Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta.
In addition, strategic canals have been built to connect rivers or cities with rivers (e.g. the Main-Danube Canal).

Cycling in Germany

Germany is a bicycle friendly country and the government - regions have invested in cycle paths.
Most German rivers have cycle paths along the river and are well signposted.
In Germany, we take this as orientation No. 1.
Most historic cities, as well as metropolitan regions, are located along rivers.
Deutsche Bahn has a wide and detailed network, so most cycle paths can be travelled along or accompanied by train.
