Munich is a German city in the federal state of Bavaria and at the same time also the largest of the state as well as state capital. 
Munich lies on the Isar River, which flows through the city from southwest to northeast. 

Munich currently has about 1.5 million inhabitants and is considered a cosmopolitan city.

Munich is one of the most economically successful and fastest growing cities in Europe.

Munich was first mentioned in a document in 1158, but the year does not count as the year the city was founded.  

The sights of the city: English Garden, Nymphenburg Castle, Marienplatz, Deutsches Museeum, Museeum BMW Welt, Hofbräuhaus.

Munich is also internationally known for the annual Oktoberfest, which attracts millions more tourists. 

Velo Europe and Cycling in the Munich area

There are countless possibilities in Munich, around Munich, from and to Munich.

The Bavarian capital is an ideal starting point for the huge offer of the Bavarian network for cyclists (approx. 120 long-distance cycle paths with 8800 km distance).

In Munich itself we can take the bike outside the rush hour 06-09:00 u.16:00-18:00 in all underground and suburban trains. In addition also in the proven regional trains. 
Due to the good infra-structure daily star rides with train return are suitable from Munich.

Velo Europe orientates itself from and to Munich basically at the Isar.

Starting from the Museeumsinsel Isar upstream in direction Alps or Isar downstream in direction Freising-Landshut - Deggendorf, where the Isar flows into the Danube.

Munich is directly connected in the Velo Europe network with Innsbruck, Salzburg and Linz in Austria.

In Switzerland it is the two big cities Zurich and Basel over Lake Constance with all options.

And we can also cycle directly to Prague.

Furthermore, the German cities of Stuttgart and Nuremberg can be reached via different routes.

1) Munich to Wolfratshausen, approx. 35 km, train approx. 40 min, 2 x per hour,
Connection to Bad Tölz - from Bad Tölz by train ca 54 min, 1 x per hour
Connection to Lake Starnberg, train from Starnberg approx 32 min, 2x per hour)
connection to Ammersee, via Wolfratshausen + Starnberger See to Herrsching, train 2 x per hour

connection to Murnau am Staffelsee, abt 53 km

2) Munich to Gmund am Tegernsee, ca 63 km, Gmund 56 min, 1 x per hour, connectio to Bad Tölz, Raublin(Inn)  and Rosenheim

3) Munich to Grafing near Munich, ca 40 km, connection to Wasserburg / Inn , train via Rosenheim 1:15 , 1x per hour, from there all stages along the Inn or to Lake Chiemsee

4) Munich to Moosburg an der Isar, ca 58 km, connection to Landshut, train ca 44 min from Landshut , 2 x per hour via Moosburg an der Isar

5) Munich to Dachau, 29 km - connection to the Ammersee to Herrsching

Munich to the Danube

We use the Isare stages downstream via Ismaning - Landshut to Deggendorf to the Isar - Danube estuary for routes to Linz via Deggendorf and Passau, downstream to Linz - Vienna - Budapest.

For routes to Prague and Nuremberg via Deggendorf - Regensburg, up the Danube.

Munich to the Lech and to the Romantic Road

The Isar stages upstream first to Wolfratshausen.

From Wolfratshausen we cycle west to the Bavarian lakes Starnberger and Ammersee with a connection to the Lech to Landsberg.

The Lech ( also at the Romantic Road and Via Augusta - old Roman Road to Augsburg ) upstream to Füssen or downstream to Augsburg.

We can follow the Lech upstream into the Lechtaler mountains with connection options to Lake Constance or over the Fernpass into the Inn Valley ( Innsbruck ) or the Lech upstream towards Augsburg or along the Romantic Road.

Munich to Lake Constance or Lake Königssee via interface Bad Tölz

Follow the Isar from Wolfratshausen to Bad Tölz - here there is a possibility of an east-west signposted cycle path in the east towards Königssee - Salzburg and west to Lake Constance with the options Basel and Zurich (Lake Constance - Königssee cycle path).

Or the Isar from Tölz towards the Isar spring upstream to Sylvensteinsteinsee and on to Innsbruck

Munich to the Inn with Option Chiemsee and Salzburg

Alternatively there is also a connection route from Munich to Isar to the Inn (Isar- Inn Panorama route), which is only 50 km away, with the following options

-downstream the Inn river to the mouth to Passau ( Option Linz - Regensburg )

-along the Inn river via Rosenheim - Kufstein to Innsbruck

- Cross connections from Wasserburg to Chiemsee and on to Salzburg 

Regio area

In the regional area there are further possibilities to the Tegernsee via Isar to Bad Tölz or a sightseeing tour of Munich by bike
